Guess the Guest

Guess the Guest, first broadcast in 2015 on Leeds Student Radio, is widely acknowledged as being the inspiration for the BBC’s Desert Island Discs. Created, marketed and hosted by Freddie Mickshik and Tom Poole, each week an illustrious guest would be booked to discuss their life, loves and favourite tunes. Due to an unfortunate and unforeseeable sequence of events, every single guest failed to turn up.

Using their ingenuity, inventiveness and celebrated patter, Freddie and Tom managed to chat their way through routine guestlessness, using the absent guest’s song choices, their own desperate puns and a series of weekly features to encourage their listeners to Guess the Guest.

Attracting a weekly audience of well over 8 people, the debut season ran for 10 weeks and was nominated for an LSR award for ‘Best Entertainment’, missing out on the gong to a much funnier and better-produced programme.

While some audio footage does remain of the original recordings, here are some poster ads I’ve knocked up for our missing guests.
